Notable Tribute to an Efficient Officer

Yesterday (Friday) Superintendent Edwin Hackman relinquished his command of the police of the Chertsey Division,  A fortnight ago ago we referred to the esteem in  which Mr. Hackman is held by the people of and district, and his popularity culminated on Wednesday in the presentation of a public testimonial. The ceremony took place at the Town Hall, Chertsey, before the holding of the Court. Sir Charles Walpole (chairman of the Bench) presided, and other magistrates were present..

The chairman said it was with great regret that the people of Chertsey and neighbourhood heard that Mr. Hackmen bad decided to resign the position of Superintendent of Police, and the members the Bench shared that regret. For the last 17 years Mr. Hackman had filled the office  of superintendent is this district, and everyone recognised the fact  he was loyal and efficient in his duties during the whole of that time (hear, hear).
