Life story

Edith Eva Charlesworth 1859 - 1926 Edith Eva Ground was the daughter of a clergyman, Joseph Ground, the vicar of Caterham.She married, Canadian, Eugene Guildford Kirby who died in 1893 after their son Eric William was born (1890-1970). The widowed Edith (Eva) married clergyman's son, William Henry Charlesworth in 1905. 

Biography

Edith was born in Hilgay, Norfolk in about 1859 to clergyman, Joseph Ground and his wife Sarah. She boarded at a girls' school in Bedford with her older sister, Florence, as listed in the 1871 census. After her father's death in 1882, she travelled to Canada with her mother and several siblings. She married Eugene Guildford Kirby and her son, Eric William,  was born in 1890 in Niagara, Canada. Eugene died in 1893 and Edith returned to the UK before her marriage in 1905 to William Henry Charlesworth in Bramley, Surrey.

Edith and William lived in Worthing with Edith's son, Eric, who was a bank clerk. Edith died on 8th August 1926 and was buried in Heene Cemetery on August 11th.
