Life story

Life story

Sarah was born in the village of Moor Crichel, Dorset, the daughter of Aine and Sarah Ann. She was baptised in the church on 18th September 1853. By 1874, calling herself Elizabeth, she was in Worthing. She married George Edwin Greenfield, a brickmaker, at St George's Church, Worthing on 21st December 1874. The couple moved to the west end of Tarring Road where George worked on the brickfields just north of the railway line. Sarah had nine children before 1901. Two of her sons also worked on the brickfields with their father. Sarah died on 14th August 1902. No probate. George re-married in 1908 and died in 1914. He is buried with Sarah at Heene.
