Life story

John Nisbet was born  in 1826, to John Nisbet, 33yrs, and Margaret, 32yrs, nee Patterson, of Easington Grange, Belford, Northumberland.

John, 23yrs, married Lucy Sarah Gibson, 21yrs, on 31st May 1850 in Kingston upon Hull.

John was a Corn Factor, (a wholesaler, who buys and sells corn on behalf of others).

They had 8 children, Margaret Graeme b.1852, Lucy Catherine b.1855, Alice Graeme b.1853, Annie Gertrude b. 1860, Isabella Urpath b.1861, Edward Gibson b.1863, Frederick b.1864, and Ralph b.1866. They lived in Bromley, Kent, for over twenty years and when John retired, they moved to Worthing, Sussex, living at 11, Heene Terrace.

John died, aged 88yrs, on 14th January 1915, in Worthing. Probate was granted to Edward Gibson Nisbet, Solicitor, and Thomas Perry, retired Bank Manager. Effects £40714 19s 2d. Value 2021 - £4.2m.

Mr. John Nisbet, Judge of the Voluntary Arbitration Court, Baltic Corn Exchange, who was well known in commercial circles, died at Worthing, today, aged 88.
