Life story

Frank William Poland was born in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex in 1870 to Edward Poland and Martha, nee Mitchell, his father was a Beerhouse Keeper at 8, Brunswick Road, Worthing. When Frank was 7yrs old his mother, Martha, died aged 30yrs, from Tuberculosis. His father remarried in 1878 and the family continued to live in Brunswick Road at the King and Queen Inn. In 1881 his half-sister, Ellen was born. Frank William Poland died on 9th December 1884, aged 14yrs. His death certificate gave the cause of death as "Consumption Exhaustion" (Tuberculosis).
