Life story

Thomas Page was born on the 17th January 1842 in Ramsgate Kent to George and Sybilla Page (nee Kennett).  Thomas's Father worked as a Grocer and wine merchant in Ramsgate. Thomas's Mother Sybilla had a Brother called John Kennett and he was the first Mayor of Ramsgate in 1884. 

In 1851 Thomas was at boarding school at Cliff House Academy at St Margaret's on the Cliff Kent. 

In 1861 Thomas was working as an Able Seaman on the vessel Paragon based in Hastings, this was a fishing Lugger.

Thomas earned his Master and Mates certificate and became a second mate in 1864.

He then became a first mate in 1867, and finally became a Master in 1870.

Thomas married Emma Dorman in 1871 in Ashford Kent, they did not have any children. Emma Dorman was actually his first cousin.  Thomas gave up the Merchant Navy business after he married Emma and they moved to Eastbourne where Thomas became a Wine and Spirit Merchant employing 2 men and 2 boys.  By 1881 they had moved to 15 Avenue Road, Eastbourne where Thomas still worked as a Wine Merchant. By 1901 Thomas and Emma have moved to Ashford Kent and are living at 10 Canterbury Road, and Thomas is now living on his own means. By 1911 they had moved to The Homestead Downview Road, Worthing, Sussex.  Thomas is still living on independent means. 

Thomas died on the10th January 1915 and left £5692 18s (£335,783 in 2020) to Thomas Howard Page (Nephew), who was working as a merchant. Emma died in 1911 in Worthing.
