Life story

Thomas was born in Funtington, the son of William and Harriett. He was baptised in the village on 15th November 1841. Thomas's mother died in 1850. On 24th December 1867, Thomas married Mary Ann Knight at West Tarring church. The couple lived in Durrington where Thomas was employed as a shepherd. By 1871, they had two children Susannah and Stephen. Sadly Stephen died in 1877 and was buried at Durrington. Thomas and Mary Ann moved to Coate where eventually they were living with ten children and Mary Ann's father. In 1899, Mary Ann died and Thomas moved back into the village of Durrington working as a carter on a local farm. By 1911, Thomas had moved in with his daughter Charlotte and her husband who lived in The Drive, Worthing. He died in May 1914 and was buried on 3rd June. No probate.
