Life story

Life story

Sarah was born in Richmond, Surrey, the daughter of Francis and Sarah. Her mother died soon after Sarah's birth and was buried in Richmond on 30th March. Sarah was baptised at St Mary Magdalene church , Richmond on 31st March 1850. Francis was a coachman and in 1859, he married Caroline Reaves on 24th July. As a young woman, Sarah worked as a housemaid in Twickenham. On 9th April 1872, she married Joseph Collins, a coachman, in Richmond. The couple lived in the town for a while before moving to Worthing about 1885. They lived in Milton Street over the stables where Joseph ran a business as a fly proprietor. Sarah had eight children but sadly a son, Francis Joseph died at 9 months and was buried in Heene cemetery. The family lived in Milton Street until Joseph's death in 1918. By 1929, Sarah was living at Arundel Lodge in Tennyson Road, Worthing. She became incapacitated and died at East Preston Institution on 10th October 1939. No probate.
