Life story

Life story

Rosetta Lydia Elliott's maiden name was Bourne and she was born in Clerkenwell, London in 1828. She was the daughter of William Bourne, a bonnet manufacturer, which must have influenced her to become a milliner. Her mother was Lydia nee Makeham (or Markham). When Rosetta married James Warren Elliott, a cooper, on 29th March 1850, she signed the register as Lydia Rosetta Bourne but usually she preferred to be known as Rosetta Lydia and except for the 1851 Census, that is how she appeared in future census records. She and James had three sons and three daughters. Rosetta lived most of her life in London but by 1901, the family had moved to "Westfield" in Winchester Road, Worthing. She died in March 1910 and was buried at Heene on 30th March. No probate.
