Obituary

Death of Rev. R W Thrupp Church Magazine “His Valued association with St Andrews”

Much regret has been occasioned locally by the news of the death of Reverend R W Thrupp who has passed away at his residence St Francis, Rowlands Road, after a short illness following an operation. The deceased gentleman who was 60 years of age was an honorary member of the clerical staff of St Andrews Church, and his willing services and generous support were highly esteemed. It was he who was placed in charge of the parish during the absence of the vicar, Rev. G K Boyd who has gone to the continent for a holiday, and it is understood is unable to return at the present. A varied clerical career, Mr Thrupp gained his degree of Bachelor of Arts at Lincoln College Oxford in 1877 having matric in 1873 and obtaining Master of Arts in 1880. He was appointed a deacon in 1877 and admitted to Priests orders in 1878 in the Diocese of Lichfield. From 1877 to 1888, he was curate of Tamworth, vicar of Wharton in Warwickshire from 1883-1884, curate of St Cuthbert’s, South Kensington from 1885 to 1890 and vicar of Alderminster from 1890-1910. In his later years, Mr Thrupp became a licensed preacher in the Diocese of Chichester and as we have said his gratuitous and kindly help at St Andrews has been much appreciated. The funeral took place this morning Wednesday 12th August. A large congregation attended. The coffin had been taken to the church overnight and placed on a bier which rested in the chancel, and throughout the night the remains were watched by members of the congregation. A full choir sang. Then the cortege proceeded to Heene cemetery where the last rights took place.
