Life story

Richard William Temple was born in Woolwich, Kent, in 1811. In the first census of 1841, Richard was a schoolmaster, married to Elizabeth Funge, and living in Stepney, Middlesex. They had 2 children, Edmund b.1844, and Elizabeth b. 1845. Richard was widowed c1849 when he was 35yrs old, he never remarried. Richard spent the rest of his teaching career at the Blue Coat School for boys in High Street, Deptford, Kent. He remained living there with his unmarried daughter, Elizabeth, into his 70s, and by 1891 they had retired to Worthing, living at 41, Cobden Road. At some point they moved to 9, Thorn Terrace, Worthing, where Richard died, aged 84yrs, on November 4th 1895. Probate was granted to his daughter, Elizabeth, spinster, effects £30.  Value 2023 - £5,000.
