Life story

Marianna Way was born in Shorwell, Isle of Wight, in April 1851, the daughter of Arthur Way, 32yrs, farmer, and Marianna, 29yrs, nee Hillier, she had 5 siblings, Margaret b. 1849, Fanny b. 1853, Arthur b. 1855, Isabella b.1857, and Henry b.1859.

Marianna remained on the family farm until she was in her late thirties, her father died in 1878 and her mother and brother, Arthur, continued running the farm. In 1891, Marianna and her sister, Fanny, both still single, were living in Hastings, Sussex, but in their forties, they both married. Fanny married Joseph Chandler in Worthing, and Marianna married Frederick Dixon Trew and moved to Ireland.

Marianna was widowed in 1905 and joined her sister, Fanny, also now widowed, in Worthing, where she kept a lodging house, living under the name of Dixon.

 Marianna Trew, (Dixon) widow, of 22, Rowlands Road, Worthing, Sussex, died 3rd December 1920.

Probate was granted to Arthur Way, farmer, and Fanny Chandler, widow. Effects £996 11s 10d. Value 2023 £57,000.
