Margaret Aimee Kinloch was born on 10th July 1852 in Meigle, Perthshire. Her father was George Kinloch, 21yrs, and her mother, Margaret, 28yrs, nee Canning. She had 9 siblings, Marjorie b.1846, Elena b.1847, John b.1849, George b.1853, Lucy b.1854, Robert b.1855, Evangeline b.1858, Caroline b.1859, and Charlotte b.1862.

The Kinlochs are one of the most ancient families of Scotland; Margaret's grandfather, George Kinloch, (1775-1833) was a Scottish Reformer and MP for Dundee. Her father, Sir George Kinloch, was created 1st Baronet of Kinloch in 1873, the family lived at Kinloch House, Meigle, Perthshire, and at 32, Drummond Place, Edinburgh.

Margaret married William Joseph Starkey Barber on 29th April 1873 at Meigle, Perthshire; he was a barrister-at-law of the Inner Temple and was made one of the heirs of his maiden aunt, Miss Sarah Starkey, of the Hall, Huttons Ambo, Co. York, and took the name of Starkey in addition to that of Barber, being known as William Joseph Starkey Barber-Starkey.

They had 9 children, Joseph b.1874, Margaret b.1875, Georgina b.1877, Aimee b.1878, William b.1880, (killed in action 1914) Constance b.1881, Roger b.1883, Francis b.1885, and Charles b.1890.

William and Margaret lived at the Hall, Huttons Ambo, Yorkshire, and at Aldenham Hall, Bridgenorth, Shropshire, eventually retiring to Worthing, where they lived at Beaconsfield, Manor Road. Margaret was widowed in 1924 when William died, aged 76yrs. She remained in Beaconsfield, and died, aged 90yrs, on 21st May 1943. Probate was granted to Roger John Kinloch Barber-Starkey, Acquisitions Officer Ministry of Supply, and Charles Cecil Barber-Starkey, Farmer. Effects £3668 1s 10d. Value 2021 - £171K.
