Life story

Laura Abercrombie was born on 20th May 1828; she was baptised at St. Pancras Parish Church on 16th June 1828. Her parents were, William Henry Abercrombie, 38yrs, a Brass Foundry owner, and Susannah, 34yrs, nee Noad, she had 8 siblings, Susan b.1815, William Henry b.1817, Mary Ann b.1818, Eliza b.1820, Henry b.1822, Alfred b.1825, Katherine b.1834, and Ralph, b.1835. On October 1st, 1857, Laura, 28yrs, married Edward Francis Finden, 27yrs, at St. Pancras Parish Church, they were probably cousins. Although Edward had initially trained as an engraver, he was now a bank cashier, they lived in Camberwell, and he had become an assistant bank manager by the time he retired. They had no children. Edward and Laura moved to Worthing, living at 5, Prince's Terrace, where Edward died, aged 69yrs, on 9th September 1899. Laura remained in Worthing until her death, aged 82yrs, on 26th February 1910, at Seabrook Nursing Home, Queen's Road. Probate was granted to Chester Abercrombie, Auctioneer, effects £264 0s 11d. Value 2021 - £32K.
