Life story

Dr John Christopher Jones 1888 - 1960 Pioneered Strychnine for Polio Treatment Dr John Christopher Jones was born in Aston Birmingham on 9th October 1888 to George William Jones and his wife, Phoebe Anne Lilly. John had five siblings: William, Edgar, Oscar Trevor, Lilian Constance and Reginald.

He qualified as a doctor and married Isabel Emily Fitzgerald-Howell.  Isabel and John had three children: Irene Phoebe Isabel, Katherine Norah Bolingbroke and Peter George Edward Fitzgerald.

Dr Jones pioneered the use of strychnine for the treatment of Polio. His son, Peter, became a scientist involved in weapon research and was the director of the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment at Aldermaston between 1982 -1987.

John Christopher Jones died on 21st February, 1960 and his ashes were interred at Heene Cemetery.
