Life story

Life story

Job was born in the village of Winfrith in Dorset, the son of John and Ann. The family were farm workers. Job was baptised in the church on 6 May 1849. As a boy, he worked as a plough boy before heading to Weymouth to work as a labourer. Job married Sophia May Somers at St Peter’s church, Parkstone on 26 July 1874. The couple lived in Parkstone for a while before moving to Kinson, Poole. They had seven children, Sophia, Lucy, William, Bessie, Walter, Alice and Ellen. Sophia died in 1899 aged 49. The following year Job married Emily Chislett a widow, in Heatherlands, Parkstone, Dorset on 23rd December. Emily had two children from her previous marriage, Albert and Thomas. The family moved to Branksome near Poole where Job worked as a bricklayer’s labourer. By 1911, they were back in Parkstone. Job died on 14th January 1924 whilst visiting his married daughter Lucy, now Mrs Fairs, in Worthing. She lived at “Mansfield” in Tarring Road with her husband Alfred who worked as a gardener in one of the local nurseries. No Probate.
