Henry George Woods was born in 1842 in Northampton. He was sent away to school in Folkestone and then to St Nicholas College, Lancing, Sussex (later named Lancing College). He was ordained in 1866. He was later a Fellow and President of Trinity College, Oxford. He married Margaret (Daisy) Bradley in 1879. Her younger sister Rose was a visitor to The Lawn, Heene Road in 1881. The Bradleys were an academic family whose friends included Tennyson. Henry became Master of the Temple in London and died in 1915. He is buried in Oxford.
