Henry Gibbs was subject to a conman, William Cooper Trett aged 29, who unlawfully obtained 6s. 9d. from him. The preceding cases in New Court that day, relating to two female crimes, do make interesting comparisons of punishment. William Cooper Trett got 2 days imprisonment for stealing amounts totalling £7 12s.9d. which would be around £600 in today's money. Susan Childs aged 23, who unlawfully endeavoured to conceal the birth of her child, received one day's imprisonment. Clara Darvill aged 33, received 8 months hard labour for unlawfully endeavouring to conceal the births of her four children.
