Life story

Harriett was one of three sisters, daughters of Thomas and Frances Archer. She was born in St Pancras, London and baptised at St Anne's church, Soho on 1st January 1855. Her father was a currier and upholsterer making trimmings for coaches. By 1881, he had a large factory in Long Acre employing 80 people. After Thomas was widowed, the three sisters, Harriett, Frances and Alice (Isabella) lived with him until his death in 1905. By 1891, the family had moved to Worthing, living in Lansdowne Road. In 1905, Thomas's factory was destroyed in a fire in February. He died in August and was buried in Camden. Harriett and her sisters moved to "Rolden" in Winchester Road and then to Rowlands Road by 1911. Harriett died on 30th May 1915 at "Seville" in Rowlands Road. Probate was granted on 14th July to Frances Archer and Alice Isabella Archer spinsters. Effects £1155 3s 4d.

Frances died on 1st December 1923 and Alice on 5th April 1940.
