Life story

Harriet Louisa Wells was born on 22nd July 1872 in Hayes, Middlesex. She was the daughter of George Wells, 32yrs, Miller, and Jane, 31yrs, nee Wilkins. She had an older sister, Elizabeth Jane, born 1862. Their mother died shortly after Harriet's birth and in 1875 their father married Eliza Parker, 46yrs, and a half-sister, Annie L. Wells was born in 1876.

Harriet appears in no further records until she marries in 1925. Harriet gave her age as 48yrs, (spinster), her husband was John Joseph Penrose, 46yrs, a musician, (bachelor), they married at Christ Church, Brondesbury, Brent on 20th June 1925.

Harriet and her sister, Elizabeth Jane Fyfe, next appear in the 1939 register; they are both widows and living at 88, George V Avenue, Worthing, where Harriet is proprietor of an apartment house.

Elizabeth predeceased Harriet in 1942, and Harriet moved to 35, Church Walk, Worthing, where she died on 17th March 1945, aged 72yrs. Probate was granted to Elizabeth Catherine Wells, widow, effects £3282 17s 8d. Value 2022 - £151K.
