DR. FRED EVANS, FORMERLY OF CARDIFF. Information has reached Cardiff from London of the death of Dr. F. W. Evans. M.D., at his son’s residence at Worthing. Some few months ago he accompanied his daughter on a voyage to Trinidad, whither she was bound to join her husband. On the outward journey Dr. Evans received a slight stroke, from which he had practically recovered, when he set sail for England, but on the return voyage he had a second stroke from the effects of which he died on Tuesday last in his seventieth year. Dr. Frederick William Evans practised at Cardiff, where he was held in great esteem, up to seven years ago, when he retired from the profession. At that time, he lived in Charles Street and proceeded to Sutton Courtney near Abingdon. He was the oldest surviving son of the late Alderman Thomas Evans, also of Cardliff. He was educated at Cheltenham College, and subsequently at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London and at Aberdeen University, and was for many years, a surgeon with the Volunteer Forces. He had held responsible positions at Cardiff Infirmary. Dr. Evans’ grandfather was also a medical man at Cardiff, but none of the younger generation have entered that profession. Dr. Evans was always a busy man, and holding the largest pactice, at that time. of any doctor at Cardiff, he was not able, therefore. to associate himself actively with public affairs. He attended, regularly at St. Fagan's Castle and Cardiff Castle, as physician to the Earl of Plymouth and the Marquess of Bute, respectively, up to the time of his retirement, and held hereditary freemanship of the city. He leaves a widow and two children, Major Aubrey Thomas Evans and Mrs. Margaret Evelyn Till. He is survived by two brothers, Mr. Robert Y. Evans, 14, Park Place, Cardiff, and Mr. Edgar Ivor Evans, surveyor to the Penarth District Council. The interment takes Place at Worthing tomorrow (Saturday) at four pm.
