LONDON and BRIGHTON RAILWAY. At a public meeting of the inhabitants of the Town and Borough of New Shoreham, duly convened by the High Constable and held at the Star Inn, the 4th day of January 1836, "for the purpose of taking into consideration the advantages likely to result to Shoreham from a Railroad communication with the Metropolis and Brighton, and to adopt measures thereon as to the Meeting might appear expedient." Mr. George Irvine in the Chair. The following Resolutions were passed unanimously. Resolved. That a railway communication from London to Shoreham. with a continuation to Brighton, is calculated to prove of the greatest advantage to the town and port of Shoreham. Resolved. That the port Shoreham offers great facility for a communication from London to the Continent; and is also well adapted for carrying on important branches of foreign trade, and for the shipping of agricultural produce. It is desirable, therefore, that the railway should be direct from London Shoreham. Resolved. That this Meeting, being convinced of the very great advantage of the proposed railroad to the borough of Shoreham, do request the members to give it their most strenuous support.
