Life story

Life story

Frances was born in Hackney, the daughter of Richard and Frances (Fanny). At home she was known as Mary. She was baptised at St Thomas, Hackney on 14 Jun 1835. Her father Richard was a stockbroker, partner in the firm Hodgson and Greaves. Richard died in 1869. At the time, Frances and her parents were living at 11 Clarence Villas, Clapton. On 12 Nov 1870, Frances married (Ebenezer) Flavell Edmunds in Hackney. Flavell was a widower, twenty years older than Frances. He was editor of the Hereford Times and an author. Their son Richard was born in 1873. Flavell died the following year on Christmas Day. Frances and her son moved to Enfield and then to Queens Road, Tunbridge Wells. Sadly, Richard died on 22 Aug 1886 aged 13. In 1887, Frances married Isaac Hunwicke at Tunbridge Wells Congregational Church on 7 May. Isaac was a widower. Isaac died on 19 Jun 1890. Frances stayed for a while in Tunbridge Wells but had moved by 1901 to Croydon. By 1909, she made her final move to Worthing. Frances spent the rest of her life at Seafield Byron Road. She died there on 24 Feb 1929. Probate was granted on 10th April to Rev. Cecil Bernard Greaves clerk. Effects £39965 13s 6d.
