Life story

Emma's father, Henry George Pirie, was Scottish and was an Episcopalian Clerk in Holy Orders. ( The Scottish Episcopalian Church is High Church ie Anglo-Catholic, governed by bishops) Emma's mother, Grace Philott Pirie, nee Garrett, was Irish. It is not known what occupation Emma may have had. She did not marry. At some point she moved to Worthing and lived at Galloway House, Rowlands Road, where she died of phthisis pulmonaris, an old term for pulmonary tuberculosis, at the age of 27 on 15 February 1889 with one of her brothers present. She was buried at Heene on 20 February.
