Life story

Life story

Emma was born in Kirkcaldy, Fife, the daughter of John and Anne Hislop Lorimer. She was baptised in Kirkcaldy on 28th October 1847. Her father was a wool carder and dyer. By 1861, Anne Lorimer was a widow and the family had moved to Edinburgh. Anne died in 1875. After her mother's death, Emma moved in with her sister Elizabeth who had married a curate and lived in Quainton, Bucks. By 1892, Emma had moved to Worthing, living at "St Bernard's" in Mill Road. She was a supporter of Heene church and served on several committees including one which sponsored a young girl in Africa called Rose. Emma also sang in the choir. By 1936, Emma had moved to 52 Rugby Road with a nurse and housekeeper. She died on 9th September 1941. Probate was granted on 27th May 1942 to Oswald Maslen Parker retired major HM Army, Charles Ronald Ritchie writer to The Signet and Robert Arnott Duncan solicitor. Effects £17091 14s 5d.
