Life story

Clarissa Ann Ackland was born in Bristol to Richard Ackland, Mariner, 32yrs, and Sarah, 27yrs, nee Morgan. She was baptised on 23rd September 1827 at St. Augustine the Less; she had a brother, John Richard, born in 1831. She married John Parson Burleigh, 25yrs, on 29th September 1869, he was born in Essex and was an Ironmonger. They married at St. Stephen's, Hammersmith, she gave her age as 35yrs, but she was actually 42yrs, 16yrs older than her husband. Clarissa and John lived at 25, Queen's Terrace, St. John's Wood, and they continued to live at this address for the next 20yrs. Between 1891 and 1901 John retired from his Ironmongery business and they moved to a property named Broadclyst, in Manor Road, Worthing, where they stayed for the next 20yrs. Their marriage was childless. Clarissa Ann Burleigh died in December 1920, aged 93yrs.
