Charles Kelly was born in Preston Vicarage, Sussex in 1856, son of Walter Kelly and Mary (nee Bruckner).
In 1861 his family was living at 3 Medina Villas in Hove. Father Walter, born in Middlesex, was Vicar of Preston cum Hove. There were Mother Mary, born in 1811 in Canterbury, Charles with his sisters Persis Mary Thomasine and Catherine and brother Edward, all born in Preston, a House Servant, Maid Servant and Cook.
Charles was the youngest of 6 children, his elder sister having died before her 1st birthday and his older siblings having moved on by 1861.
The family was still in Preston in 1871, with Persis and Anne, and 3 Servants, but Charles, described as a Scholar, was living with a Cousin, Henry Kelly, Vicar of Christ Church, Hoxton, London.
By 1881 Charles was living back home in Preston, a 24-year-old Bankers' Clerk. Father William now a Clergyman Without Care of Souls', was aged 77. Mary was 70. Also in the Household were Walter William, at 31 a Curate in Westminster, and sister Persis, now 29 and single. They had two Domestic Servants.
In 1884, Charles married Florence Mary Bramhall, in St Andrew's Church, Hove. Charles was described on their marriage certificate as a Gentleman, and his father, a Clerk in Holy Orders. Charles' brother Walter Kelly married them.
Walter Kelly Senior died in 1888, in Hove.
In 1891, now a Wine Merchant, Charles was living in Claremont Terrace, still in Preston. Charles and Florence had a 5 year-old daughter, Norah, and 2 Domestic Servants.
They had moved to Lambeth by 1901, Charles now a Banker's Clerk again. They now had just one Servant, a Cook.
They moved back to Sussex by 1911, living in Cowper Road. Charles was now a Bank Manager, Norah was single at 25, and they had a Housemaid and a Cook.
In Kelly's 1914 Directory, Charles was described as Esq. at Davaar, 13 Cowper Road.
When Charles died, in 1916, at St Botolph's Nursing Home in Richmond Road,
his address was Davaar.
