Edgar Godden (buried 1917)

Edgar was born in Worthing in June 1892 to John Newell Godden and his wife, Bertha Lily White. He had 5 siblings: John, Eveline, Francis, Edgar and Norah. He was employed as a bricklayer before enlisting the Royal Sussex Regiment.

He died of multiple sarcoma after marrying Emily Rebecca Guiel on 11/11/1916 following his cancer diagnosis and was buried in Broadwater Cemetery. His younger brother, Charles Vere , an acting corporal in the Sussex Regiment, died of wounds sustained at the Somme on 13/11/1916.

Charles and Edgar are uncles to Alice Norah Godden (buried in Heene Cemetery) who is the daughter of their brother John Newell Godden
