John Tillyard and Lillian Chamberlain both suffered from rheumatism. They are now buried in the graveyard that contains plants that could have been used to ease their symptoms.
Bittersweet (woody nightshade), silver birch and primroses grow near their graves and have medicinal properties which have been shown to help the treatment of rheumatism. Birch leaf tea is also used for gout and dropsy and to dissolve kidney stones and birch oil is good for skin complaints. The herb bittersweet is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which can help alleviate rheumatic symptoms.
Primroses also have anti-inflammatory attributes and soothing properties helpful in easing skin conditions such as wounds and burns.
