On 28th October 2025, the Friends of Heene Cemetery met in an Emergency General Meeting. The following decisions were taken:
- A motion to de-constitute the Friends of Heene Cemetery was approved. This means that the group no longer has a guiding constitution.
- It will be replaced by a self-organising “collaborative working group” in which an equal volunteer structure is confirmed.
- Routine conservation work will continue on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the year.
- The paid membership structure has ceased.
- Various cores roles will be discharged on a rolling basis, but these positions will not be self-elected and, where possible, shared.
- The new grouping has no administrative roles.
- The group retains its bank and PayPal accounts, and can continue to raise money and accept donations.
- The group’s website will continue to be maintained and funded.
- Volunteer supervision will be the responsibility of Adur & Worthing Councils' Parks and Foreshore section.
- Volunteers remain committed to maintaining the Cemetery’s Environment, Heritage and Community values under a shared responsibility.
