These are mostly perennial geophytes with rhizomes or bulbs, often with large, colourful flowers.

This cultivar flowers from April, and occasionally in late February.

Summer Snowflake

The Summer and Spring Snowflakes, like Snowdrops, can have green flashes near the tips of their petals. Summer Snowflakes have stems over twice the length of those of Spring Snowflakes and Snowdrops.

The Summer Snowflake differs from the Spring Snowflake by having between 3 and 8 flowers on each stem. The one photographed here has at least four. The Spring Snowflake has but the one.
