B. Waxcaps (HYGROPHORACEAE)

Hygrophoraceae fungi belong in the Agaricales order and consists of over 1,000 species of grassland fungi, usually referred to as Waxcaps. Most of these fungi are ground-dwellers that are found in woodland and grassland.

C. Parrot Waxcap (Gliophorus psittacinus)

The Parrot Waxcap has a cap of between 2 and 4 centimetres. The cap is initially green and turns yellow with an orange tinge as it grows. Viewed close-up, one can see that the gills are not fully attached to the stalk. The gills are - appropriately - waxy. They appear in England between August and November, and are reasonably common and widespread in Britain.
