B. Irises (IRIDACEAE)

Iris was the Greek goddess who carried messages from Olympus to the Earth along a rainbow. Members of this perennial family have rhizomes, corms, or bulbs.

C. Montbretia (C. aurea x pottsii) (Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora)

This is one of the familiar Montbretia cultivars, flowering from late June. Montbretia is considered to be an invasive species that can smother other wildflowers. Such is the threat posed by Montbretia to native wildflowers that it has been listed under Schedule 9 to the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981. This means that it is an offence to plant Montbretia - or cause it to grow - in the wild.
