A. Flowering Plants
More extensive information on flowering plants can be found in a separate blog post.
B. Geraniums (GERANIACEAE)
This is a family of astringent plants, as they have significant amounts of tannic, ellagic, and gallic acids. The roots are particularly acidic. The long beak-like fruits gave rise to the name 'cranesbill'.
C. Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum)
This plant is named after the impish wood sprite of folklore Robin Goodfellow, who may have been the inspiration for the legends of Robin Hood. The flower colour of this native plant is variable, from pink to white, and the flowers appear in April. Preparations from it are said to be good for kidney pains, but if the plant is picked, snakes emerge from the stems.
