The Noctuidae - or Owlet Moths - are sometimes considered the largest family of butterflies and moths, with nearly 12,000 different species.
C. Heart and Dart (Agrotis exclamationis)
The Heart and Dart moth has distinctive markings which give it its common name. It has a length of between 35 and 44 millimetres. It is often considered to be the most common moth in Europe.
This moth is a nectar feeder, favouring Buddleia, Common Ragwort and Red Valerian.
