Flies in the Opomyzidae family have grasses and cereals as their larval food plant. They can therefore be agricultural pests

Opomyza germinationis is a small fly with dark marks on the front edges of its wings. It prefers moist habitats, being found in grasses and leaf litter from June to October.

This fly breeds on grass stems and walks slowly, being reluctant to fly. It is widespread and common in Britain.
