A. Flowering Plants
More extensive information on flowering plants can be found in a separate blog post.
B. Docks (POLYGONACEAE)
This large family has many familiar members with swollen stem nodes; hence the alternative name knotweeds. There is a characteristic sheath at the leaf base forming a tube around the stem, the ochrea.
C. Broad-leaved Dock (Rumex obtusifolius)
The lower leaves are heart-shaped at the base. This dock flowers from June. The juice of this and other docks was used to cure boils; or the leaves were boiled and the gelatinous liquid remaining was used.
