Winifred, the dearly loved daughter of Arthur and S. Jane Tolton who asleep 1st April 1922 "You walked with angels all your days unselfish, sweet and pure; dear child, beyond death's mystic ways our loves endure. In loving remembrance of my dear husband W. Arthur Tolton born 7th January 1899 entered into rest 12th January 1929 "Father in Thy gracious keeping, leave we now our loved ones sleeping" And of his wife Janie our dear mother passed on 7th February 1953 aged 93 years. Also in loving memory of our dear Aunt Clara. And their dear elder son Arthur Ernest Tolton passed away 13th January 1969

Life story

William Arthur Tolton was born in Leicester in 1859 to John Tolton, 29yrs, and Emma, nee Place, 28yrs. He had 5 siblings, John G. b.1852, Joseph P. b.1856, Frank b. 1861, Sampson b. 1863, and Elizabeth A. b. 1867. Their father was a Draper and Wesleyan Preacher.

In 1881 William, aged 22yrs, married Sarah Jane Abbott, 21yrs, in Leicester, and he was then a Bookkeeper. William later became manager of a cement merchants and eventually had his own business as a builders' merchant. He and Sarah had 4 children, Clara Evelyn b.1881, Ernest A. b. 1883, Winifred P. b.1887, and Archibald G. b.1891.

After his retirement, William, Sarah and daughter, Winifred, moved to Worthing where they lived at Beach Cottage, Marine Parade. In 1922 Winifred died from influenza aged 35yrs.

William Arthur Tolton, died in Worthing, aged 70yrs, on 12th January 1929. Probate was granted to Sampson Place Tolton, gentleman, and Archibald George Tolton, Insurance Company Official.            Effects £5586 10s 10d. Value 2021 - £357K.
