Life story

Life story

William Street was born in September 1850 in Crich, Belper, Derbyshire. His father was railway labourer, Samuel Street and his mother was Mary Ann Street. He married Ann Joynes in Aston, Derbyshire and their daughter Annie was born in 1871. Mary died and widower, William married Alice Abia Paul in December 1883 in Camberwell, Surrey. William had various jobs and trades: he was an engine fitter, a watch and clockmaker's agent and a commercial traveller specialising in jewellery. William was also a school proprietor employing both his wife as a teacher and his sister-in-law as a matron.

Alice and William moved to Worthing sometime before 1911 and Alice's twin sister, Harriet Ann Paul, moved with them to Dalkeith Road. He died on 3 September 1920 in Worthing, Sussex and was buried in Heene Cemetery. Harriet Paul is also buried in the cemetery.
