Life story

Life story

William was born in Leaholm, Whitby, Yorkshire, the son of Anthony and Sarah. He was baptised at Glaisdale on 24th June 1845. William's father was an Inland Revenue Officer and the family moved around the country with his job. William grew up in Norfolk before moving to London to work as a clerk in a woollen warehouse. In 1872, William married Elizabeth Ann Dobinson in Lewisham, Kent. Their son Frederick William was born in 1873 and a daughter Elsie Martha in 1878. The family moved to Greenwich and then back to Lewisham where William worked as an accountant. By 1901, William had retired and he and Elizabeth moved to Worthing, living in Rowlands Road. William died on 16th July 1901. Probate was granted to Elizabeth Ann Potts widow. Effects £452 8s 4d.

In 1903, Elizabeth auctioned the contents of the house and moved to Australia. She died in 1919.
