Story

William John was born to Thomas and Eliza Nadin, nee Woodley, in Chelsea, Middlesex, in 1865. There is no sign of a baptism. William had three brothers and one sister, and lived in Chelsea, Middlesex. Shortly after, the family moved to Worthing, West Sussex.

In 1869, William’s father died leaving behind Eliza and five children. Two years later, the 1871 census reveals the family living at ‘7 Thorn Terrace’ in Heene, Worthing. William is now 6 years old and a ‘Scholar’.

Ten years later, William is still living in Heene, aged 16, and working as a ‘Carpenter’. The family are still living at ‘7 Thorn Terrace’.

In 1891, William is now living at ‘Milton House, Milton St’ with his wife Ellen, nee Hutchinson, whom he married on Boxing Day 1890. William is working as a ‘Carpenter + Joiner’. 1891 sees the birth of their first child, Eveline Eliza Mary and 1893 sees the birth of their son, Norman John James. William sadly loses his mother in June of that year.

The turn of the 20th century (1901) reveals William and his family living in ‘2 Milton St’ with his widowed father-in-law, James Hutchinson. William’s occupation has not changed. 10 years later shows just William and Eliza now living at ‘”Saxby”, Boundary Road’, aged 46 and 44 respectively.

The next recorded event for William is his death on the 24th November 1925 and he was buried four days later. He was still living at ‘Saxby’ in Boundary Road at the time of his death. The estate was inherited by his son, Norman.
