Life story

Life story

William was born in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, the son of John and Susannah. He was baptised in Beeston on 17th August 1845. His family worked in the local lace making industry. William worked as a lacemaker as a young man but moved to London by 1868. He married Sarah Ann Fox, also from Beeston in this year. William found work as a clerk to a clothier and also as a Methodist preacher. The couple lived in Tottenham and had five children, William, Edith, Percy, Sidney and Mabel. By 1911, the family had moved to Worthing, living at "Bramcote" in Winchester Road. Both William and Sarah supported the local Wesleyan church. Sarah died in January 1913. William continued to live at "Bramcote" until his death on 21st March 1929. Probate was granted on 29th May to Edith Moore spinster and Charles Inwood estate agent. Effects £3736 13s 7d.
