Life story

Walter Peters was born in Portslade, Brighton, Sussex, he was baptised on 29th December 1861 at St. Nicholas, Brighton. He was the son of Martin James Peters, 25yrs, a coal merchant and beer- house keeper, and Elizabeth, 25yrs, nee Hylands. Walter was 1 of 8 children.

Walter was a general labourer at 17yrs, a stoker at 28yrs, and a brickmaker at 39yrs. At 23yrs he married Harriett Nichols, 19yrs, on 23rd May 1885 at St. Andrew's, Portslade. They had 7 children, Martin b.1887, Rosina b.1892, Mary Ann b.1894, Albert b.1895, Annie b.1896, Edith b.1900, and Florence b.1904.

By 1901 Walter and Harriett had moved to Worthing, Sussex, where they lived at 9, Elm Grove, and on 28th August 1907, Walter died, aged 46yrs.

Probate was granted to his widow, effects, £247 11s 5d. Value 2022 - £31,600.
