Life story

Life story

Walter Symonds North was born in September 1876 in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, to railway porter, William J North hand Frances Mary Shepherd. Walter's father died soon after his birth.

He married Swiss born, Lina Olive Aline Cristen in Kensington in 1912 and had two sons Walter and Alan. He was a butcher with his own retail shop in Westgate on Sea and moved to Worthing to open another shop. He died on 6 August 1931 at his home in Rowlands Road, Worthing at the age of 54, and was buried in Heene Cemetery.

THE LATE MR W. S. NORTH FUNERAL OF WELL-KNOWN TRADESMAN THE CHIEF MOURNERS Among the mourners who attended the funeral on Monday of Mr Walter Symonds North, Rowlands-road. Worthing, whose death at the age of 66 took place on Thursday last week, wash Mr Roland Franklin, an old school friend and business partner, who travelled from Lancashire to pay this last tribute to his friend. At the funeral service, which was presided by the Rev. R. B. Jameson at Holy Trinity Church. the principal mourners were: Mrs North (widow), Master Walter North and Master Alan North (sons). Mr and Mr G. North (brother and sister-in-law. Mrs W. Moor, (sister). Mrs 0. Crux (sister), Mrs A. Walthert. of Switzerland (sister-in-lawl. Mr Roland Franklin. Mr and Mrs C. Davis. Mrs W. Less Mollman. Mrs J. Francis Hughes. Mr C . Dawson. Mr North was a well-known Worthing butcher, and had a branch in Brighton-road in addition to his principal shop in Rowlands-road. He came to Worthing seven years ago from Eastbourne. where he had a shop in Seaside. Prior to going to Eastbourne he had established himself at Westgate-on-Sea, where he lived for 15 years. He leaves a widow and two young sons.
