Life story

Walter Lingley Newman was born in 1889 in Angmering, Sussex to Frederick John Newman, 30yrs, and Elizabeth nee Painter, 30yrs. He had a sister, Florence, 2yrs. Walter's father was a Brickworker and in 1891 when Walter was 1yr old, Florence 3yrs old, they lived at 6, Gardeners Terrace, Portslade, Sussex. In 1894 his brother, Frederick was born. In 1901 Walter was 11yrs, Florence 13yrs, and Frederick 7yrs. Their father, Frederick was 41yrs, he was a Brickmaker, Elizabeth 41yrs, they now lived at 2, Norway Cottages, Rustington, Sussex. Walter Lingley Newman died on 18th January 1905, aged 15yrs, at 27, The Drive, Worthing. His death certificate gave the cause of death as "Lardaceous Disease and Dropsy from old Hip and Spine Disease, Influenza and Broncho Pneumonia."
