Life story

Life story

Thomas was born in St Pancras, the son of Ralph and Elizabeth. He was baptised at the Old Church, St Pancras on 7 April 1837. Ralph was a brickmaker. Thomas was one of eleven children. He started his employment as a clerk to a ship and insurance brokers. In 1868, Thomas married Kate (Kitty) Price at St Mary de Castro church, Leicester on 7 April. The couple moved to London where Thomas worked as a ship broker. When he retired in 1884, Thomas and Kitty moved to Worthing, living at Manor Villa in Manor Road. Manor Villa was one of three houses built by Mr Rodocanachi of Chios, Worthing. The family rented it for £80 pa. Kitty died in 1916 and Thomas moved to Lothbury in Gordon Road. In 1920, he gave 60 shillings to Worthing's War Memorial Fund. Thomas died on 16 Mar 1920. Probate was granted on 11 Jun to Alfred Sidney Swan printer's manager (brother-in-law). Effects £1257 18s 1d.
