Life story

Sybil Emily Newcombe was born in 1877 in Buckinghamshire where her father, Arthur Newcombe, was the Vicar of Steeple Claydon. She had two siblings, William 4yrs and Susan 3yrs. In 1884 her brother Percy was born. Her father died in 1887 and in 1891 Sybil, aged 13yrs, was living with her widowed mother, Agnes, sister, Susan 16yrs and brother, Percy 7yrs. in Winslow, Buckinghamshire, where her mother was the Principal of a Girls' Boarding School and Sybil continued to live with her until her early twenties. In 1906 Sybil, aged 28yrs, married an Indian Army Officer, Donald Neil Stuart, in Rangoon, Bengal, their son, Neil Lockhart Stuart was born in 1908. Sybil Emily Stuart died, aged 44yrs, on 24th January 1922 in Worthing. Her address was given as Penlee, St. Michael's Road, she died at Seabrook Nursing Home, Queen's Road. Probate was granted to her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Donald Stuart, her effects were £319. Value 2020 - £18K. Her death certificate gave the cause of death as (1) Fibroid Uterus (2) Operation Exhaustion.
