In loving memory of George Hollis died 29th January 1919 aged 76 years. Also of Susannah his wife died 7th April 1921 aged 78. Also the Rt. Rev. Francis Septimus Hollis 7th Bishop of Borneo 7th son of G and S Hollis died 4th Feb 1955 aged 70 R.I.P. and his sister Emily Margaret Wood dear wife of F. Bernard Wood died 10th Nov. 1971 aged 88

Life story

Life story

Susannah was born in Highgate, Middlesex, the daughter of Francis and Sarah. She was baptised at Old Saint Pancras church on 29th June 1843. Her father was a solicitor. By 1861, Susannah was living with her uncle John Griffiths, a silversmith. On 27th April 1872, Susannah married George Hollis, a solicitor, at St Michael's church, Highgate. The couple had ten children but tragically lost three of their sons. Harry died in 1883 aged 7, Percy died in 1900 aged 19 and William died of peritonitis in Malawi in 1902 aged 25. By 1913, the family had moved from Marylebone to Worthing, living at "Floriana" in Downview Road. George died on 25th January 1919. Susannah died on 7th April 1921. Probate was granted on 23rd April to George Mercer Hollis solicitor. Effects £1090 4s 6d.
