Life story

Susan was born in 1842 in Patching to John and Maria Shoosmith. John worked as a shepherd; in 1836 he was a shepherd to Richard Mitchell of Storrington.

Sussex Advertiser 10th Oct 1836 - The Arundel and Bramber Agricultural Association held their Annual Meeting at the Park Farm belonging to His Grace the Duke of Norfolk on Friday last, on which day there was a ploughing match. After which they adjourned to the Norfolk Arms to dine, when the following premiums were awarded. Class C. A premium of  3/. ditto to John Shoosmith, 7 years shepherd to Mr Richard Mitchell of Storrington, for having reared 200 lambs from 200 ewes upon the hills

In 1851 he was still living and working as a shepherd in Cootham Lane Storrington. 

Susan married David Dean on 1st March 1863 at the Amberley parish church.

They had 2 children Emma Maria born 1866, William David b. 1869 d. 1873. 

David Dean died in 1869 and Susan moved to 1 Field Row Worthing, both of her children are with her.  Susan is working as a charwoman. In 1873 Susan's son William David died. 

Susan married William Churcher in 1874. William worked as a bricklayer and by 1881 they are living at 27 Chapel Street Worthing Sussex. There is no record of any children being born. 

Susan's Daughter Emma Maria married Arthur James Dallman in 1887 in Croydon and had 3 children.  Arthur ran his own dairy farm and the couple lived in Croydon. 

By 1891 the couple had moved to 9 Milton Street Worthing

 Susan died on 18th September 1903. William Churcher died on 2nd January 1909
