Stephanie Rosabel Hammick was born to James Thomas and Eliza Sybilla Hammick on the 22nd September 1868 in Rockbeare Hill, Ottery, Devon.
James was a Barrister at law and a land owner in Devon. He was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn on 26th January 1865. He was also the Treasurer of the Statistical Society and Secretary of the Registrar Generals office. He wrote many books and pamphlets on law. He was also a commissioner for the 1871 census.
In 1876 James divorced Eliza Sybilla for adultery with a farmer called William Aldridge.
After her parents divorced Stephanie and her siblings lived with their Father. In 1881 they were living at Melford Heath, Wetley, Surrey.
By 1901 Stephanie had moved to Portsmouth where she was lodging with William and Ellen Taylor who ran a lodging house at 58 Osborne Road, Southsea.
Stephanie died at 58 Osborne Road, Southsea of Pulmonary Phithisis (Tuberculosis), her Sister Laura who lived in Taunton somerset was in attendance. She left £4462.13s.10d to her Sister and Brother in Law, John Percy Shotter and Sybella Therese Shotter.
Sybella Therese Shotter lived in St. Botolph's Road Worthing when Stephanie died, that might be why she was buried in Heene Cemetery
